Fluminense’s goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri is in Brazil’s squad for the friendly games against Italy and Russia.

The former Liverpool keeper had not been called up since the Superclásico de las América games against Argentina last year, when he also saved a penalty. helping Brazil win the title. Mano Menezes was still the national team manager back then.

Diego Cavalieri was elected the best goalkeeper in Brazil last year, press and fans alike had long wanted to see him back at the national team. 

He is currently Brazil’s national team second goalkeeper, only behind Queens Park Rangers experience keeper Júlio César.

Diego Cavalieri talked to Brazilian cable TV channel Sportv about his return to the national team, he said: “Any call up is always very welcome, regardless of the moment. It’s an achievement amd we know now that time is running out. The Confederations Cup is just around the corner, which means every minute is precious. We have to take our chances the best possible way”.

The goalkeeper added the following “I’ll take this period to do a good work not only here at the national team, but also to play at a high level when I return to my club. I have to impress the national team staff to get more chances in the future”.

Brazil play against Italy on March 21 and against Russia on March 25.
