Palmeiras manager Gilson Kleina has indicated that on-loan Grêmio forward Leandro has done enough to earn himself a place in the starting lineup for the club’s midweek fixture with Botafogo-SP.

Leandro, 19, has scored twice in four substitute appearances since joining the club and should join Porto loanee Kléber in attack for the side as a result. In doing so, he will replace fellow 19-year-old Vinícius who has scored just once in 10 games for the club this season.

With pressure mounting from the club’s fans, Gilson believes that it is time to start Brazil Under-20 international Leandro and take some of the burden off of Vinícius’ shoulders.

“Leandro had all the qualities to be a starter,” he said. “After he scored against Barbarense, we had two games in the Libertadores and he was not registered.

“Vinícius has come through here, but it seems his mistake is different from mistakes from those that come in from outside. I will give him a lot of protection.

“Leandro doesn’t bear that weight. I want the best for Palmeiras and Leandro is in better form.”

Another Grêmio loanee who could come in against Botafogo-SP in midweek is Rondinelly, who could make his first appearance for the club with attacking midfielder Valdivia out injured.
