Pelé: Corinthians should form the core of the Brazil side

Despite his allegiance to rivals Santos, Brazilian idol Pelé has suggested that Luiz Felipe Scolari should look to Club World Cup champions Corinthians to form the basis of his Brazil side.
Referring to the comments of former Brazil coach João Saldanha (1969-70) during his time as a player, Pelé believes that the side would improve should they choose to take on his suggested philosophy.
It would involve using the Corinthians side and Neymar as the core of the team, before strengthening certain areas with players from elsewhere.
He told reporters: “I am going to give you an idea, an example for some of the younger people.
"In our era we had many problems with coaches. Coach João Saldanha then said at the time: 'Who are the two best teams in Brazil? Santos and Vasco? Santos and Botafogo? This lets use these teams as a base and then add what else we need.
“Now if there was a team that could serve as a good base, honestly, it is Corinthians. [They are] a team with no star, but who are playing well, winning and proving that they are a strong team.
“If you combine this with Neymar to form the foundations of a team, it will get a lot better.”
The Brazil side are currently in Geneva preparing to meet Italy on Thursday before travelling to London to face Russia next week.
