Brazil head into Thursday’s friendly encounter with Italy in the midst of an injury crisis as Ramires appears to be the latest player to have withdrawn from the squad with an unspecified problem.

The Chelsea midfielder was expected to join the squad in Geneva on Monday for the start of Brazil’s training camp but failed to turn up. Lancenet report that the player has contacted the team doctor regarding his injury problems.

His absence would cause issues for Luiz Felipe Scolari who has already lost midfielder Paulinho to injury, while Diego Costa and David Luiz both hobbled off during their fixtures this weekend and will undergo medical tests before being declared fit for the games.

The CBF are expected to make an official announcement regarding withdrawals and possible replacement players in the coming hours.

The Seleção face Italy in Geneva on Thursday before taking on Russia at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium next Tuesday in preparation for the summer’s Confederations Cup.
