Jorginho believes his experience as assistant manager of Brazil has prepared him well for the challenge as Flamengo coach.

The 48-year old started his managerial career at America-RJ in 2006 but made his name as Dunga’s assistant coach between 2006 and 2010.

Jorginho had short spells in charge of Goiás, Figueirense, and J-League side Kashima Antlers and has now taken over the Rubro-negro until 2014.

He said: “I know the pressure that exists here, but the four years that I spent with Dunga and the Seleção taught me a lot.

“Now I’m more mature and ready to coach Flamengo.”

The Brazilian won the 1994 World Cup and spent five years with Flamengo as a player, before moving to the Bundesliga to represent Bayern Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

Aílton Ferraz has been hired as the new assistant manager and like Jorginho, he also played for the club.
