The opening round of the Taça Rio was completed yesterday with two games. Fluminense beat Audax 1-0 while Vasco were beaten at home 0-1 by Volta Redonda.

Vasco played first, at São Januário against Volta Redonda. The cruzmaltino dominated most of the game, but made too many errors, annoying their fans.

Voltaço scored their goal early in the first half with André Alves and were able to keep their lead until the end. They played a very tactically organized game, frustrating the opponent.

Fluminense played later, against newly-promoted Audax, at the Engenhão stadium. It was a difficult match as Audax played all out defense during most of the game.

The first half was poor with few chances for each team, but Flu improved in second half, eventually scoring their only goal with Bruno.

Bruno had an injury and was eventually subbed off, allowing Chelsea-bound Wallace to make his debut in 2013. He had little impact though.

Vasco will meet Nova Iguaçu on Wednesday, while Fluminense play a few days later, on Saturday, against Duque de Caxias.
