Campinense won the 2013 edition of the Copa do Nordeste following their 2-0 win against ASA in Campina Grande in the second leg of the final. The Paraíba-based team had also won 2-1 in Arapiraca in the first leg.

Ricardo Maranhense and Jeferson Maranhão scored Campinense’s goals tonight, the game was nervous as three ASA players were given yellow cards while Fabiano got sent off.

This is Campinense’s first Copa do Nordeste title, they started their campaign in group D, along with CRB, Feirense and Santa Cruz, finishing in second place.

They beat traditional Northeastern team Sport Recife and Fortaleza in the knockout stage before facing ASA in the final.

Vitória’s Marcelo Nicácio and ABC’s Rodrigo Silva were the top scorers with 5 goals each.

The competition was a huge success, having higher attendances than the state leagues of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

The 2014 edition will give the winners a spot in Copa Sudamericana, thus increasing even more the status of the competition.
