Rivaldo has dismissed the possibility of retiring after the Paulistão and made it clear that he plans to see out his contract with São Caetano.

The 2002 World Cup champion is disappointed with São Caetano’s performance in the Paulista League, where they are still in last place.

“São Caetano, with the players we have, should be in fifth place, only behind the four big teams. But things are not happening and we are in a complicated situation in the league. But we still have hope we can revert this situation,” said Rivaldo.

The 40-year old midfielder also ruled out leaving the club before his contract is over, even if the team are relegated.

He said: “I will play the Série B and I’ll try to bring São Caetano back to Série A. I’ll see out my contract no matter what happens, this is not the moment to flee”.

He added that only then he will decide his future: “Then I’ll think if I should retire. I’ll be 41 next month, I’ll decide later if I retire or if I’ll join Santa Cruz”.
