Former Liverpool and Valencia left-back Fabio Aurelio is set to be handed his debut in Saturday’s clash against Lajeadense should the Brazilian pass a pre-match fitness test.

Aurelio has been injured for the nine months since joining Grêmio from Premier League giants Liverpool and has yet to feature for the first team.

But Grêmio’s coaches are hoping that Aurelio will finally make his debut after the full-back successfully recovered from a niggling calf injury as he continues his comeback from a cruciate ligament injury that initally ruled him out for six months.

He joined training on Thursday and will be assessed by coaches ahead of the fixture on Saturday, however it is debatable whether Vanderlei Luxemburgo will even include him in his first eleven.

Aurelio joined Grêmio on a free transfer after being released by Liverpool in June 2012, where he played 87 times and scoring three goals in a injury-strewn six year period at the club.
