Brazilian striker Marquinhos becomes J-League's all-time fourth best goalscorer
Brazilian striker Marquinhos scored a hat-trick for Yokohama Marinos on Saturday to become the J-League’s all-time fourth best goalscorer alongside fellow native Uesley.
The 36-year-old had spells in his homeland at Coritiba and Atlético Mineiro but has spent the majority of his career in Japan with the likes of Kashima Antlers and Tokyo Verdy.
Marquinhos grabbed three goals, for just the second time in his career, during the final 20 minutes of Yokohama’s 5-0 thrashing of Shimizu S-Pulse yesterday.
He said: "I'm really happy. It is important that the team won the game with my goals. I'm better in my combination play than last year."
The forward, who left the country following the deadly earthquake-tsunami two years ago, also scored a hat-trick for Kashima Antlers in September 2010.
Brazilian natives Marquinhos and Uesley are the best foreign scorers in the country, with a total of 124 goals each overall.
