Pelé hails Confederations Cup as 'very significant' for Brazil
Seleção legend Pelé has hailed the upcoming 2013 Confederations Cup as a 'significant event' in Brazil.
The King took to Twitter to describe the event as an 'opportunity' to showcase Brazil's qualities and demonstrate what they have to offer to the world.
This is a very significant event, as it will be an opportunity to show what our country has to offer as a host nation. #Confeds— Pelé (@Pele) March 8, 2013
The Confederations Cup is due to kick off on June 15 and will serve as a rehearsal for the upcoming 2014 World Cup to be hosted in Brazil.
The competition has served as a traditional curtain raiser for the year ahead and will give FIFA an opportunity to scrutinise Brazil's preparations.
FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke is currently on a tour to examine facilities ahead of the event and already there have been concerns over the readiness of the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro for the tournament.
But a recent statement from Valcke has dismissed such concerns and revealed the famed stadium is on course to be completed for its estimated date of April 27.
