Striker Vinícius Araújo celebrates first Cruzeiro start and goal
Cruzeiro youngster Vinícius Araújo has expressed his delight at scoring his first goal for the club in a 3-1 victory over Tombense on Saturday.
Vinícius, recently turned 20, had made one previous substitute appearance for the first-team but was handed his opportunity by coach Marcelo Oliveira after an injury to regular striker Anselmo Ramon.
A regular top-scorer at youth-team level, Vinícius' arrival for the first-team has been long anticipated and he did not disappoint as he opened the scoring for his side after half-an-hour of the encounter.
“I am sad about Anselmo's injury. I hope it's nothing,” Vinícius told Globo. “But I did not know when an opportunity would come knocking.
“I have taken advantage of the opportunities in training, working on the physical side and on everything. Marcelo told me: 'Boy, things are coming together for you. Go out there and score a goal.' Thank God I was blessed and I am happy with my goal.”
A Raposa added two more goals in the second-half through the excellent Éverton Ribeiro and fellow youngster Élber to secure their place at the top of the Mineiro table.
