Copa Libertadores: Horror challenge mars Atlético victory
Atlético Mineiro stormed to a 5-2 victory over Argentina's Arsenal in a game that was marred by a horror challenge by Diego Braghieri on Ronaldinho.
The Argentine defender launched into Ronaldinho with a two-footed lunge in the closing stages of the game, with the Brazilian miraculously escaping harm, but escaped punishment as the referee gave a penalty.
Ronaldinho missed the spot kick but Atlético Mineiro had done enough on the night as Bernard netted a hat-trick and Diego Tardelli and Jô also scored.
Atlético suffered an early setback as Julio Furch opened the scoring in the second minute before Bernard levelled proceedings.
The away side then controlled the game as Tardelli and Jô extended their lead before Nicholás Aguirre pulled one back before the break.
Bernard completed his hat-trick with two second half strikes to put the game beyond doubt as Atlético go top of Group 3 with their second win in two games.
