A 15-year-old British schoolboy enjoyed a trial with Brasileirão outfit Vasco de Gama after a scout spotted him playing for his local team in the Cayman Islands.

Cayman Islands native David Ramsaran, who goes to school near Blackburn, was invited to play in Brazil after impressing scouts and has returned to England speaking highly of his time in Rio de Janeiro.

“My dream is to be a professional footballer and it was an amazing experience to play for their Under 15s team because Vasco da Gama is such a huge club in Brazil,” said David.

David, who sits his final exams at the Clitheroe school this year, added: “I chose to come to England to study and play because of Moorland’s reputation.

“As Head Boy, I have a big responsibility to set a very good example to my school mates because you are looked up to by a lot of people.”

Ramsaran, a goalkeeper who has attracted the attention of several English clubs, added: “I love England and I want to stay here and play professional football if I can.

“At Moorland, the headmaster and the teachers are always there to give you advice and encouragement, and that means a lot.”

Moorland headteacher Jonathan Harrison: “David is a fantastic ambassador for Moorland School. He sets a fine example and we are extremely proud of him.”
