Campeonato Carioca: Flamengo remain unbeaten to top group

Flamengo continued their unbeaten run in the Campeonato Carioca with another win on Saturday evening, while Vasco da Gama also finished top of their group with three points on Sunday.
The Rubro-Negro have topped the table with seven wins and one draw from the Taça Guanabara phase, which they completed after Renato Abreu grabbed a quick-fire double to claim a 2-0 victory over Olaria.
Flamengo will now face Botafogo from the opposite group after they slipped into second place with a 2-2 draw with Boavista.
Gilcimar stunned the home side with two goals in as many minutes before Lucas and Nicolás Lodeiro restored parity before half-time.
However, one point wasn’t enough for the Fogão as Vasco leapfrogged into first with a 2-1 win over Duque de Caxias, thanks to a late brace from Bernado to cancel out Charles Chad’s opener.
Vasco will take on Fluminense, who finished six points behind Flamengo, in the playoffs after a 2-2 draw with Madureira in their final fixture.
Samuel Rosa twice put Vasco in front with a goal in each half but his side were pegged back by a penalty and late goal from Rodrigo.
