Kaká scored his first La Liga goal of the season on Saturday night to inspire a late Real Madrid comeback victory against Deportivo la Coruña, winning 2-1 on José Mourinho’s 1000th day as Los Merengues manager.

Having fallen behind to a goal from Riki, it looked as though the reigning champions were heading for yet another disappointing result until Kaká supplied a moment of quality to open the scoring.

With the scores level, Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain would later capitalise on an opportunity with just two minutes remaining to seal the tie for the Madrid side.

Kaká, who was widely praised for his showing, hopes he has played his way back into contention for a place in the side in big upcoming matches against Barcelona and Manchester United.

“The team is playing well and things are getting better for me too. In football everything changes quickly and I am happy to help the team win. I am a lot better,” he told reporters.

“What we have around the corner is exciting and it’s the decisive part of the season and if the manager wants me to play I will be there to help in those matches.”
