Grêmio midfielder Souza has admitted that they underestimated Huachipato ahead of last week’s 2-1 home defeat but believes it will serve as an important lesson for the rest of their Copa Libertadores campaign.

Souza, 24, who joined Grêmio permanently in January from Porto having spent last season on loan in Porto Alegre, believes Grêmio relaxed against the Chilean’s and also agreed with the criticism of his performance from coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

"We were not missing, but lacked something in defeat [against Huachipato]," he told Globo Esporte.

"Technically, I was not well. The team also. We were engaged but did not play well. Against Huachipato, we thought their team was less qualified. We got relaxed, thinking that we would solve the game at any time.

"We were just surprised. This serves as an example."

Grêmio play their second group 8 fixture on Wednesday night when they travel to Rio de Janeiro to play Fluminense.
