São Paulo coach Ney Franco has confirmed to reporters on Monday that midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso is set to start for the club against São Caetano on Wednesday.

With the player developing physically and into the club’s tactical setup, it is believed that the encounter with the Azulão is a good opportunity to test the midfielder’s current performance levels.

“He’s a player who we are working on developing physically and technically,” coach Ney Franco said. “We are now coming to the end of this first phase.

“We had chosen to launch him gradually during second-halves, even though he started a few games. Now, we will put him in from the beginning and we hope to see him play up to his physical limit.”

The current push for Ganso to be involved in the São Paulo first-team comes after his match-winning goal against Ituano on Saturday evening, when his final minute header secured a 3-2 victory for the Tricolor Paulista.

Having arrived for around £7 million from Santos last season, Ganso was expected to become an automatic first choice at the club. However, with the excellent form of playmaker Jadson, the Brazil international has struggled to establish himself at the Morumbi to date.
