On loan from Chelsea, Malaga winger Lucas Piazon made his first start for the club on Saturday night as the Andalusian side beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0.

Lucas Piazon, 19, had played 23 minutes in victory over Levante the previous week and continued his first-team involvement, this time in place of rested winger Joaquin.

The former São Paulo youngster made an instant impact, supplying an assist for striker Javie Saviola and generally playing well until his withdrawal for the aforementioned Joaquin after 81 minutes.

Lucas had spoken midweek of his delight at joining the La Liga side, having found life at Chelsea difficult given the club’s ever-changing political environment.

“I like the way football is played here, passing the ball without looking to hit it long,” Lucas said. “It is like Brazilian football. I feel more secure here.

“Leaving was the best option. The atmosphere was difficult. There was a lot of pressure and it was difficult for a young player to be able to play. I want to play and have opportunities to grow.”
