Manchester City are interested in snapping up Roma defender Marquinhos in the summer but may face competition from Barcelona according to reports in England.

Roberto Mancini is reported to have travelled to Italy last weekend to watch Marquinhos play in Roma’s 3-1 defeat to Sampdoria.

The Daily Express claims that the club are preparing a clear out in the summer, with Joleon Lescott amongst those to be axed.

But City will have to compete with Barcelona for the youngster’s signature as Marquinhos admitted he was flattered by their interest.

The player told Italian football site CalcioMercato: “I like the interest of Barca yes, but now I have to think about it. Now is not the time to think if one day I’ll finish playing there.”

Spanish paper El Mundo Deportivo states that Roma have slapped an £8m price tag on the defender.
