Willian happy with his Anzhi Makhachkala debut
Willian made a winning start to his Anzhi Makhachkala career as his new club defeated Hannover 96 in the Uefa Europa League.
The 24-year-old, who moved to the Russian club last month for €35million, was happy with his performance against the Germans, in which he laid on a goal for Samuel Eto'o.
“It was a very good debut and although I’m still getting to know my teammates, I could help the team,” he told reporters after the game.
“I am very happy to start with an assist in the first game. Usually it takes a while for you to understand how the team plays, mingle, but fortunately I did well with my companions. I believe that it was a good debut and most importantly is that we got a great result.”
The victory sets Anzhi up well for the return leg in Germany, where Willian believes they should look to take advantage of the Germans need to score by hitting on the counter.
“The difference of two goals is important, but we have to keep the attention on the second game. Our expectation is that in Germany the game is good for us because they will have to attack and will give space for our team.”
The former Corinthians star has never been a prolific goalscorer but hopes to keep up the level of assists he made at Shakhtar, where he made 19 goals last season.
“My goal is to keep the level I had been performing at Shakhtar, with goals and passes that are important.”
