Grêmio forward Willian José revealed that he was feeling the pressure to score his first goals for his new club and that his two strikes against Santa Cruz have eased that feeling.

José, 21, moved to Grêmio in January after leaving São Paulo last season and, while he had scored a number of goals at São Paulo, he had come under pressure from the club’s supporters and was keen for that to not happen at his new club.

“It has taken a weight off my back,” the Porto Calvo-born striker told Globo Esporte after the game.

“To win 5-0 is very good. The team bounced back and keeps the chances of qualification.”

He was involved in both legs of the Copa Libertadores playoff against LDU last month but failed to impress and faces tough competition to get back into coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s team from Marcelo Moreno, Hérnan Barcos, Kleber, Welliton and Andre Lima.
