Sir Alex Ferguson tasks "fearless" Rafael with stopping Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Rafael da Silva will be the player tasked with stopping Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo this evening.
The two sides will meet in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight, which will be the first time Ronaldo has played against his former club.
The Portuguese star has been in superb form this season with 24 goals, however, Sir Alex believes Rafael will be fearless in the face of the Madrid forward.
He told MUTV: "The responsibility will be with Rafael. Rafael's maturity this season has been fantastic.
"Obviously Robin van Persie has been sensational but, outside that, Rafa and Michael Carrick are having their best seasons ever.
"He's Brazilian so he doesn't fear a thing. I trust him and have faith in him tonight."
The Brazil international himself recently stated that he knows how to stop Ronaldo, having played alongside him at Old Trafford for a season.
Rafael said: "I know what he can do because I played and trained with him a lot.
"So he's not the type of opponent where you would say 'he's good but I don't know what he can do'. I know what he can do."
United's mouth-watering last-16 duel against Los Blancos is scheduled to kick-off at 19:45 BST this evening.
