André Santos is hoping that his season-long loan at Grêmio will lead to an international recall from Brazil.

The 29-year-old has joined the Porto Alegre outfit on a temporary deal, having failed to make an impact in the Premier League with Arsenal this season.

Santos, who could make his debut against Santa Cruz tomorrow, hopes the move will increase his chances of a recall to the Seleção squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

He said: “It would be a dream for me to play the World Cup in my home country. If I don’t play regularly for Arsenal, I’ll have no chance.

“By coming to Grêmio I will be able to be in a position to compete for a spot. If I play well, on the top of my game, for sure I will get an opportunity under manager [Luiz Felipe] Scolari.

“That is my goal and I will be working very hard to achieve that."

Santos has been capped 22 times by Brazil but has not represented his country since July 2011, when he played in a 3-2 friendly defeat to Germany.

Next up for the Seleção is a friendly with Italy on March 20, before they return to England for a game against Russia at Chelsea"s Stamford Bridge.
