New Atlético Mineiro striker Diego Tardelli wants the number 9 shirt
Diego Tardelli only returned to Atlético Mineiro last week but already has caused some unrest at the club by asking for the number 9 shirt.
Tardelli, 27, is back with the Belo Horizonte club after spells with Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala and Al-Gharafa, of Qatar, but has asked to wear the number 9 shirt as he did during his last spell at the club.
The number was free at the start of the season after striker André left the club but former Manchester City forward Jô has worn the shirt for the first two games of this season.
He said: “They asked me, but I said that for me it does not matter, only that I would love to wear the 9 again. I think it was Jô who was with her, but then I will talk to him, I will go to his room and we talk.”
“It can be a 9 or a 99, but I know in the Libertadores it is until 30. But that's the least of it.
“It's special, but for me it is important there is no drama. (Second choice) I will talk to Kalil [Atlético president], and with Maluf [director of football], about the number 13, and hope it will give me and Atlético luck.”
