André Santos left Arsenal for Grêmio on Monday on a year-long loan deal but wanted to thank the Gunners fans for supporting him during his time at the Emirates.

Santos, 29, joined Arsenal in August 2011 from Turkish giants Fenerbahce for £6.8million but failed to gain a regular spot in Arsene Wenger’s team and has moved to the Porto Alegre club to help resurrect his career.

Santos left the Arsenal fans the below message on the official Arsenal website”

“Hi everyone! As you know I’m going to a new club on loan until the end of the season. I feel that I need to play and Gremio is giving me a big opportunity to do this. So I’ve travelled to Brazil and I’ll be playing for Gremio.

“Everything happened very quickly with the loan move, but I’m confident this is the best for both Arsenal and myself.

“I’m doing this video, just to say thanks to everyone at Arsenal, especially Arsène Wenger, for everything he has done for me. I also want to thank everyone at the Club for sorting out the contracts in a very professional matter.

“I want to thank all the Arsenal players who were always so good to me, and especially Bacary Sagna, Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla for always being there for me. I just want to say a big thanks to all the people that helped me at this wonderful club.

“I wish all the best for the team for the remainder of this season and of course, I’ll be following the team from Brazil.

“Finally a special thanks to all the wonderful Arsenal fans who supported me during this period here at Arsenal. I leave not with a ‘goodbye’, but with a ‘see you soon’.”
