Grêmio midfielder Souza believes the club’s new signings will make them one of the favourites for the Copa Libertadores this season.
Souza, 25, who signed permanently for Grêmio in January after spending last season on loan in Porto Alegre, has been encouraged by the new arrivals at the club, in particular Adriano, André Santos, Welliton and Hérnan Barcos in the past week.
He said: “The responsibility already existed, but grew with these signings. The club has not won a title for a long time.
“Indeed, our squad got stronger. We have to assume that. Now, we can have no complaints. The directors did a great job. We are able to compete in all the competitions that lie ahead.”
And Souza is excited to get the Copa Libertadores campaign underway, believing all the Brazilian clubs have a good chance of going far.
“Let’s do everything to be champion. Grêmio is a favourite in the Libertadores. There are other teams that were reinforced, Corinthians is one of them, and the Brazilians as a whole.”
Grêmio face Chilean champions Huachipato on Thursday at the Arena.
