Arsenal confirm André Santos' loan switch to Grêmio
Arsenal have confirmed that full-back André Santos has joined Grêmio on loan until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at the North London club after the deadline day arrival of Spanish star Nacho Monreal from Malaga.
A statement on the club’s official website read: "After finding first-team opportunities limited this term, Santos now returns to Brazil’s Serie A - the Brasileirão - for more regular first-team football.
"Everyone wishes André well for his time with the Tricolor."
It was thought Gunners boss Arsène Wenger may keep hold of the Brazil international after Kieron Gibbs was ruled out for two months with a thigh injury.
However, Santos has struggled to cope in the Premier League following his £6.2million transfer from Fenerbahçe in 2011, starting just 13 games.
Grêmio will be the fifth Brazilian club that the defender has represented after Corinthians, Atletico Mineiro, Flamengo and Figueirense.
The Porto Alegre outfit turned to Santos to solve their ongoing left-back problem, after failing in their attempts at signing Sporting Lisbon's Emiliano Insua, who decided to join Atlético Madrid instead.
