Grêmio are hoping that the CBF will push through the transfers of Hernán Barcos and André Santos in time to make Tuesday’s deadline for Copa Libertadores registration.

The Porto Alegre club struck the deals to bring Barcos from Palmeiras, on a permanent deal, and Santos, a one-year loan, from Arsenal on Friday but, with this weekend being Carnaval, it is touch-and-go whether they will get the moves completed before Tuesday.

“We are working, there is a mobilisation of very large club,” director of football Rui Costa told Rádio Bandeirantes.

“All sectors are working on it. And now we have the support of the FGF and CBF. The information we have is that professionals will have the duty to send the information.

“We are optimistic that we will have the two, both Barcos and André, for the Libertadores. We imagine that we can have both.”

Grêmio qualified for the Libertadores with a penalty shootout victory over LDU in the playoffs last week and will open the group campaign this week against Huachipato, Chile.
