Lazio's Hernanes happy to wear protective helmet
Lazio playmaker Hernanes has insisted he is not concerned at making his comeback in tonight’s game against Napoli with the aid of a protective helmet.
The 27-year-old suffered head trauma after clashing heads with Juventus’ Luca Marrone during Lazio’s Coppa Italia semi-final win last Tuesday.
Hernanes was given numerous stitches and diagnosed with retrograde amnesia, as he does not remember the mid-air collision.
However, after a number of MRI scans, the Brazilian has been given the all-clear to play this evening, provided he wears a Petr Cech-style protective helmet.
Hernanes said: It’s very easy to use and doesn’t annoy me. It is only a provisional thing anyway, as next week I can start playing again without it.
“I am happy to have recovered, as initially it was thought I’d be out for 20-30 days.”
The injury meant that Hernanes had to be replaced by Fluminense midfielder Jean in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazil squad who lost 2-1 to England at Wembley.
The Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico is scheduled to kick-off at 19:45 this evening.
