Flamengo and Botafogo both put four goals past their opponents on Thursday to stay top of their respective groups in the Campeonato Carioca.

The competition’s top goalscorer Hernane kept up his fine form for Flamengo, scoring a quick-fire brace against Friburguense.

Rafinha and Cléber Santana, who both scored in Flamengo’s 4-2 win over Vasco da Gama last week, added goals to help the Rubro-negro record their fourth straight victory.

Elsewhere, Botafogo also picked up three points to remain unbeaten in the competition, but had to do it the hard way against lowly Resende.

The Fogão found themselves 2-0 down with just over half an hour of play gone, after a 20th-minute effort from Marcel and an Elias penalty.

Veteran midfielder Clarence Seedorf, who scored a hat-trick in his side’s 3-1 win over Macaé on Sunday, pulled one back for Botafogo shortly before half-time.

Márcio Azevedo equalised for the Brasileirão outfit just after the restart, before Cidinho and substitute Sassá completed the scoring as Botafogo ran out 4-2 winners.

Série A rivals Fluminense and Vasco da Gama face off at the Engenhão tomorrow, with the latter looking to end their two-game losing streak.
