Hernanes has been given the all-clear to play for Lazio against Napoli on Saturday evening, provided he wears a protective helmet.

The Brazilian playmaker suffered head trauma and some retrograde amnesia when he clashed heads with Juventus’ Luca Marrone during last Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final win.

Hernanes had initially been told he would probably not play for a month, but the Brazilian resumed light training earlier this week and had another MRI scan on Wednesday.

The scan showed no damage and the 27-year-old was given permission to resume full training with the Biancocelesti.

Hernanes will be able to play at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening with the aid of a protective helmet, as he has numerous stitches on his forehead.

The injury meant that Hernanes had to be replaced by Fluminense midfielder Jean in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazil squad to face England last night.

Lazio will be happy to have the midfielder back after losing Miroslav Klose for two months with a knee injury.
