Fluminense striker Fred admits that Brazil were disappointed to lose to England on Wednesday night, saying their goal was to win in order to gain some confidence for their build up to the Confederations Cup this summer.

Fred, 29, scored the equaliser at Wembley in the second half to cancel out Wayne Rooney’s first half strike, but England went on to win the game with Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard grabbing the winner.

“It was a good game. Two teams with great quality,” Fred told TV Globo.

“Scolari had warned that the team that would make less mistakes would win and would suffer most. But I think the game was good for the difficulty of playing here at Wembley.

“Of course we came here to win, but unfortunately it was not possible. We feel sorrow for outcome.

“Our goal here was to win to get confidence and prepare well for the Confederations Cup and the World Cup at home.”

Brazil will face another tough test in March when they travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to face Italy.
