Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio César has admitted that he hoped his move to the Premier League would help him win a recall to the Brazilian national team.

César, 33, left Inter Milan on a free transfer in the summer to join the west London club and his great form for Harry Redknapp’s struggling team has earned him a first call up to the Seleção for just under a year.

“It was all designed in my head,” he told Globo Esporte.

“And what is cool is that I pushed myself. And today I can say that I am proud of myself. It was a particular victory. It’s what motivates me more.

“It was something that I believed. I looked in the mirror and said, “You can do it.” It is a project that is consolidating and will only execute once when my name is on the final list.”

And César admitted that the fact that no other goalkeeper had grabbed the number one jersey helped motivate him that he could regain his spot.

“My hopes rose when I saw that many players were used and no one had gotten the position.

“Others had a chance, but Mano had not pointed to one definitive player. So many thought that because I have a history, a story, my call with Scolari could be right.”
