Manchester City right-back Maicon has warned former teammate Mario Balotelli not to allow his career to follow the same path as Brazilian forward Adriano.
Maicon, who played with Adriano at Inter Milan, admitted he was sad to see the maverick forward leave the Etihad Stadium, but conceded that Balotelli was happy to be heading back to his homeland.
“I would have liked to have got to know him for many years, but Milan stepped in and things have changed,” Maicon told Rádio2. “He is happy to have returned to Italy and to form the best partnership in Serie A with El Shaarawy.
“That said, he must realise the career of a footballer is short. Look at Adriano. He was the the best and in a short period just disappeared.”
Adriano, 30, who left Inter Milan in 2009 is currently without a club, having endured two fruitless seasons since returning to Brazil with Corinthians and Flamengo.
