Grêmio may have to call on experienced players for this Sunday’s Gre-Nal derby
Grêmio director Rui Costa has admitted that they may have to call on some experienced players for this Sunday’s Gre-Nal derby, after their young squad was thrashed 4-0 by São Luiz on Thursday night.
Grêmio have had to use their younger players for the start of the Gaúcho championship due to their involvement in the Copa Libertadores playoff against LDU. However, the importance of the derby may result in them calling on some of the club’s more experienced players to help out.
“A classico requires more experience,” he told reporters after the defeat to São Luiz.
“We have a plan, and we had a strenuous game yesterday. The players are recovering, we could not have another group. We knew that we would pay a price.
“That's what happened today. It's a team that needs to be defended. We can not condemn them. We are paying the price for being a big club.”
Due to the rebuilding of Internacional’s Beira-Rio stadium for the 2014 World Cup, the game will not be played in Porto Alegre but in Erechim, 370 kilometers north of the state’s capital.
