Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato could make his debut for the Timão when they take on Oeste in the Campeonato Paulista this Sunday.

The 23-year-old joined the São Paulo side for a reported fee of €15million earlier this month after five injury-ravaged years at AC Milan.

Pato is currently undertaking a special training program designed to nurture him back to full fitness, following a sequence of injuries that has restricted him to just 25 appearances in the past two years.

However, the Seleção star feels that he is progressing well and has set his sights on turning out for the Club World Cup champions in four days’ time.

Pato said: “I’m working hard, I cannot wait to play. I’m very focused and want to play on Sunday.”

Following Corinthians’ 1-0 win over Mirassol last weekend, head coach Tite admitted that he is doing his best to get Pato playing as soon as possible.

He said: “Pato is progressing but he is still in the process of reaching match fitness.

“Until the physical trainers give me permission to select him I am going to be on their case. I will be doing my best to make sure that he is playing sooner rather than later.”
