André Santos is happy to have returned to the Arsenal starting line-up to help his side overcome Championship outfit Brighton 3-2 in the FA Cup.

The Brazilian left-back has struggled for Arsene Wenger’s side in recent appearances and endured yet another torrid afternoon in a Gunners shirt.

Olivier Giroud grabbed a brace for Arsenal while Santos was partly to blame for both of Brighton’s goals, before being withdrawn in the 78th-minute.

Despite this, Santos said: “I am happy to have returned to the team as a starter after almost two months without playing because of injury. I’m still without game rhythm, but that I can get by playing the games.

“It’s always tricky to play against teams from the lower division teams in this kind of competition.

“I’m happy for the victory and the qualification to the next stage of the competition.”

Santos has spent the last few games on the Arsenal bench, having returned to full training this month following an abdominal injury suffered in November.
