Santos are reportedly in the process of recruiting a centre-forward for the 2013 season. However, they have turned down the chance to sign former internationals Amauri and Afonso Alves (pictured).

Amauri, 32, was called to the Brazil squad under former manager Dunga, but ended up playing for Italy after naturalising in the European country.

Former Middlesborough striker Afonso Alves, meanwhile, was also considered too old and expensive by the board.

With Bill having been released on a free transfer to Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia last week, Santos have stepped up their hunt for new striking options.

With André the only senior striker left at the club, the likes of Cagliari’s Thiago Ribeiro are said to be under consideration for the role.

The club, though, are willing to take their time in the search for a replacement, with several options from their youth ranks set to fill in over the next few weeks.
