Uruguayan midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro says he is willing to fight for a place at Botafogo this season.

Lodeiro, 23, signed for the Rio de Janeiro club last year after leaving Dutch giants Ajax and believes he is now well adjusted to Brazilian football and promises to perform much better this season.

“I think it has everything to be a much better year and more productive, I am working on it,” he told Lancenet!

“I do not know if it really will be better, the same or worse, what I know is that I’m working hard to make it better. Things do not happen by themselves, but I’m doing my best. I want to be good for Botafogo, not just myself.”

And the midfielder has welcomed the return of Clarence Seedorf to the club for his second year with Botafogo.

“It’s good to have a guy like Seedorf for the team. We are waiting for his return.

“The year is long and we will be jockeying for position so this is healthy. If someone has to be on the bench it will not be a problem, you have to fight, focus on your work and come out on top.”
