Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has confirmed that he is considering using Chelsea defender David Luiz in defensive midfield, but will not start with that setup against England.

David Luiz, 25, has featured regularly in the role for Chelsea since the turn of the year and, with both Sandro and Lucas Leiva absent, Scolari is short of natural defensive midfield options.

The coach, though, believes that it is not something that can be used straight away, given the lack of training time ahead of the match with England. However, it may be tried later in the match.

"David Luiz has played most of his games since the Club World Cup as a defensive midfielder," Scolari told reporters. "He"s a third centre-back, but who plays in front [of the defensive line].

"He has this ability and it gives us an alternative. I think it"s a good chance to try this during the game, but we won"t start like this.

"To sort this, we need time for training to work on the fine details of positioning. For now, it is an alternative for during the games, but we won"t start like that."

Brazil will take on England at Wembley on February 6, with a 20-man squad named earlier on Tuesday afternoon.
