Lyon winger Michel Bastos is in talks with Bundesliga club Schalke 04 over a move to the German side.
Bastos, 29, has been linked with a number of clubs in Europe and Brazil in the past year as Lyon look to trim their wage bill, but the former Lille star now looks set to complete a move to Schalke.
“I think he will go in January, he is in contact with clubs in Germany, England and Brazil,” Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed yesterday.
Bastos has been in good form for Remi Garde’s team this season, scoring five goals in Ligue 1, but the club need to sell to balance the books.
As well as Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen have shown an interest in the player, who is said to be keen on a move to the Bundesliga, which has a reputation as the upcoming league in European football.
Leverkusen have a good history of Brazilian players with Lucio, Ze Roberto and Renato Augusto all performing well for the club in recent years.
