Flamengo announced their fourth signing of the 2013 season in the shape of former Corinthians centre-back Wallace on a four year-contract.
Wallace, 25, rescinded his contract with the São Paulo-based club earlier in the day, having been given permission to talk with Flamengo over the possibility of a move.
With the arrival of Gil at Corinthians, the reserve centre-back’s chances of first-team football were already greatly reduced. It is also believed that the club are still looking to add a further defender in the coming weeks, with Vasco da Gama’s Dedé the main target.
Flamengo had been looking for centre-back options since agreeing the loan move of defender Welinton to Russian side Alania earlier this week, while fellow stopper David Braz was also released from his contract.
Wallace, who played 59 times for Corinthians over the past two seasons, will offer an experienced option to manager Dorival Júnior in his new-look Flamengo squad.
