Real Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka says they are delighted with Marcelo’s return to first team action.

Marcelo made his return for Real against Valencia in the Copa del Rey and is set to resoive their left back crisis.

“It has been long time for Marcelo and everyone has seen that he is an important player, but we must take things slowly,” said Karanka.

“He has to see that three months were a long time but in the second half the other day in Pamplona Fabio had a good game and came off the field tired.

“We try to manage the players to try to always put out the best starting eleven.”

The Brazilian left back has been out of action since October 14 when he suffered a broken metatarsal that ruled him out for nearly three months.

Marcelo underwent an operation in Amsterdam in preparation for his comeback and Real will want the full back to be match fit in time for Manchester United’s visit in the first half of February.

The Seleção star has been a mainstay in the Real Madrid side since joining in 2006 from Fluminense making 218 appearances and scoring 17 goals.
