Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed on their official website that midfielder Sandro has undergone surgery on his knee.

The Brazilian was forced off midway through the first half of Spurs’ 0-0 draw with QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday, with Scott Parker coming on to replace him.

Sandro’s recovery schedule will be assessed over the next few days, as Spurs prepare for Sunday’s game with Premier League leaders Manchester United.

Following his operation, he tweeted: “Sorry guys, but this one really got me, the beast is hurt.

“My surgery went well, now it’s moving forwards with treatment and rest!”

The midfielder has flourished under Andre Villas-Boas this season, especially due to his brilliant partnership with Moussa Dembele, and has earned plaudits for his impressive displays.

Sandro’s absence comes as a considerable blow with the North-London side currently sitting third in the Premier League table and still competing in both the Europa League and FA Cup.

Sandro has made 80 appearances for the club since his transfer from Internacional in 2010, scoring two goals in the process.
