Fluminense will feel they did enough to overcome Brasileiro champions Cruzeiro, but failed to convert their opportunities in a 1-1 draw. A Raposa would make them pay for their profligacy, securing a 5-3 penalty shootout success.

Another major casualty of the last-32 were Gaúcho giants Internacional, who fell to a 2-1 defeat to Velo Clube. Goals from Diego and Thiago for the minnows sandwiched Marlon’s strike.

Palmeiras came from behind to defeat Desportivo Brasil 3-2. Chico had given the Verdão the lead before Bruno Gomes and Deivid put Desportive in the driving seat. Palmeiras hit back almost instantly, though, through Chico once more, before João Pedro added a late winner.

Despite falling behind after just seven minutes to a goal from Izaldo, Santos came back to defeat Naútico 5-1, with goals from Stéfano Yuri, Giva (2), Léo and Pedro Castro.
