Rayo Vallecano have completed the signing of Gabriel Machado from Steaua Bucharest.

The 23-year-old striker has joined the Spanish club on a free transfer, after only making four appearances during 2012.

Machado has signed a contract until the end of the La Liga season, which ends in May, with an option to take up two more years.

Rayo are expected to officially announce their second January signing in the coming days, following Jordi Figueras’ loan move from Club Brugge.

Machado started his career with Juventude in 2007 before spells in Switzerland with Grasshopper and Stade Nyonnais.

He then moved to Romanian side U Cluj, where he became the club’s top goalscorer and helped his side clinch promotion to the top division during his first year.

The Brazilian will team up with fellow native Léo Baptistão at his new club, who is being strongly linked with moves to Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool, among other clubs.
