He is yet to be officially confirmed as a Fluminense player, but Fabian Monzon may be in line to make his debut as the Rio de Janeiro state championship kicks off next month.

Monzon, 25, is set to join the club on a six-month loan, with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirming that a deal has been agreed.

Fluminense coach Abel Braga, though, may be forced to throw the Lyon man in at the deep end against Nova Iguaçu, with first choice left-back Carlinhos not at full fitness.

“I don’t know, it depends on him,” he told reporters. “I’ll talk with him because I do not want to improvise on the left. It might be I use Carlinhos for half the game. There’s also the problem of jetlag.”

Although Monzon will initially join on a six-month deal, it is considered highly likely that he will remain with the Tricolor Carioca until the end of the season, having failed to settle since a move to Lyon last summer.
