Argentine striker Hernan Barcos has officially announced, via his social network accounts, that he has signed a new contract with Palmeiras which will keep him at the club until December 2016.

Barcos, 28, was an instant hit at the Palestra Italia, scoring 14 league goals in his debut campaign and helping the club to the Copa do Brasil title.

While Palmeiras’ eventual relegation brought speculation that the striker would move to pastures new, the Paulista giants have always been confident of retaining the star.

Now, after a couple of premature statements from club directors, it appears that the Pirata has finally put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

The striker published a video expressing New Year wishes to the clubs support and hoping for better days in 2013, when the club will contest the Copa Libertadores once more.

The Verdão kick-off their 2013 season on January 20, when they will face Bragantino in the opening round of the São Paulo state championship.
