Vasco da Gama have confirmed they will look for ways to fund a move for Malaga star Júlio Baptista if technical director Ricardo Gomes approves.

Baptista, 31, has been made available by the Spanish club after struggling with injuries over the past year and is believed to have been offered to Vasco earlier this week.

“If Ricardo likes, Vasco has an interest,” director of football René Simões told Lancenet!

“Let’s see what will happen. It’s something that I said in the beginning: everything that Ricardo finds important, let’s try to find a formula, within our conditions, so as to achieve success.”

Gomes, who suffered a stroke as Vasco coach in 2011, returned to the club in December as a technical director and has recently praised the former Real Madrid player, with whom he has worked with for the Brazil national team.

However, it remains to be seen how Vasco will fund the salary of Baptista with their well-documented financial troubles yet to be resolved.
